Yarrawonga Health partnered with us to upgrade dining furniture across two wings, prioritising accessibility for residents in wheelchairs. After on-site trials with staff and input from clinical teams, we designed and delivered tailored tables and chairs with generous under-table clearance and coordinated finishes. The result is a welcoming, homely dining environment that enhances comfort, supports independence, and meets both the clinical and aesthetic needs of the facility.
When Yarrawonga Health set out to replace the dining furniture in two of their wings, they had a clear priority: one of the wings had a large number of residents in wheelchairs, and the new furniture needed to make mealtimes more comfortable and accessible. The dining tables in particular had to be spacious, with plenty of under-table clearance, so that residents could approach easily and sit alongside others without difficulty.
We began the project by visiting the site with a range of sample chairs and fabric options. This ensured staff from across the organisation — clinical teams, care staff, PCAs and OTs — could try the chairs for themselves and give feedback on what would best suit their residents. With their input, we pulled together digital mood boards to bring the fabric selections and finishes to life, helping everyone visualise how the dining spaces would look and feel.
It quickly became clear that the tables needed to be re-designed to meet the specific requirements of the wing. Working closely with the Yarrawonga team, we developed a tailored solution that combined the right height, proportions, and clearance, while still complementing the overall look of the chosen fabrics and finishes. The client also required some new outdoor furniture for their undercover area, which was also included.Once the the furniture was ready, our team returned to Yarrawonga to deliver and install the new furniture. The result was a dining environment that not only looks welcoming and homely, but also supports residents’ independence and comfort — especially those using wheelchairs. The final outcome reflects both the clinical needs of the residents and the aesthetic goals of the facility.
