Did you know that research shows that a home-like environment in a dementia facility can reduce verbal and overall aggression, verbal agitation and anxiety?

Upgrading and enhancing a facility is inevitable. However, it isn’t as simple as just getting the job done due to the importance of a physical environment and how changes impact dementia residents. A trained team is needed to ensure the home-like, familiar environment is maintained once the upgrades are complete.

In 2020, Wentworth Care Furniture was engaged by Elaine McNeill, Aged Care Interiors, to support the new 22-bed extension to the Dementia Wing at Warramunda Village.

The building’s internal fit-out was developed specifically for residents with dementia, with a classical-style feel and a calming colour palette of purple, green, yellow and blues chosen to help residents identify with their surrounds. Every aspect of the building was kept as traditional as possible to provide the residents with familiar surroundings.

We understand that the physical environment also plays a key role in care by supporting residents’ remaining abilities, maintaining relationships and enhancing well-being.

With that in mind, we worked with our Australian suppliers to develop and design custom pieces to ensure the tailored requirements for dementia residents.

We were able to custom make buffets to suit, including one in a silver finish and one with a hidden TV in the back.

The furniture is sustainable in everything from design to material selection, and through all processes of craftsmanship and production.

Elaine had great ideas that went over and above standard products – including recovering the examination couch in a stunning orange vinyl and featured our favourite purple fabric on the office chair in the examination room. We will always find a way to bring the vision to life.
